Once again we need to return to the Essential Standards in Social Studies.

During step four of the process, we look closer at the standard's clarifying objective and organize these clarifying objectives into an outline of units. This step ensures that the transfer of knowledge not only allocates facts but also integrates thinking. Here is where educators have the opportunity to set the stage and design a curriculum in which lower- order and higher-order thinking interact and result in meaningful curriculum and instruction.
